The Role:Pachama is pushing the boundaries of what’s possible at the intersection of remote sensing, AI, nature restoration/conservation, and carbon finance. We are looking for a strong, experienced leader for our science team to help scale our work and team. This role will be an integral part of the leadership team at Pachama and help to guide company strategy.
Location:This role is remote with a preference for being within 3 hours of Pacific time. Under normal conditions, this role requires some travel as well as travel for periodic team offsites. Please note, there is no regular field work associated with this role.

Through the Pachama marketplace, responsible companies and individuals can connect with carbon credits from projects that are protecting and restoring forests worldwide.Responsibilites of the roleRecruit and manage a team of entrepreneurial scientists who are eager to make a tangible impact on the climate crisis, including co-creating and ensuring accountability against individual and team goalsParticipate in company strategy discussions to guide the vision and roadmaps of Pachama including defining headcount needs and financial plans on a recurring basis.Establish the quality bar for scientific output at Pachama and in carbon markets including developing team culture and systems that ensures a high level of validation of results from modeling efforts with the highest scientific principles and rigorous quantification.Plan and drive data acquisition efforts in strategic regions to enable measurement and monitoring of those key predictors.Communicate our work to external audiences to educate them on the impact and value of our work while being able to deeply explain the challenges and breakthroughs, including writing and publishing papers to share our discoveries and insights with the larger community.Define and present organizational and research metrics related to our Science teams and their work as it’s related to strategic goals.Identify key predictors for monitoring and estimating forest and climate performance measurements (e.g. net biomass change, biomass stored, selective deforestation).What we’re looking for:Deep experience in remote sensing as it relates to forest ecosystems including published research in the vicinity of remote sensing and forest mensuration or carbon accountingPeople leadership and management experience including managing diverse teams of scientists and communicatorsAbility to communicate with non-technical audiences and leadersAn execution first mindset to research with an ability to deliver pragmatic results across a wide set of team initiativesDemonstrated applied science experience bringing research to marketPassion for the Pachama mission and a willingness to roll-up-one’s sleevesApply for this job
