The climate crisis means that now, more than ever, we need to act. Here at Piclo, we believe we are not powerless against climate change and are focused on enabling the transition to a decarbonised future. Our team is on a mission to make our energy systems smart, flexible and sustainable.
We’re hiring a Technical Product Manager to work alongside our friendly team of software developers, product managers, designers and more that are at the forefront of transforming the energy sector.
Who we are looking for
We’re looking for a Technical Product Manager. Our software stack comprises a single-page app and a microservice backend running on a serverless infrastructure. You’ll work on our core product - Piclo Flex.
This role will join our Integrations team. They are one of our more technical teams and are enabling new capabilities through a suite of APIs and 3rd party integrations. This will drive more automation for our customers and allow faster reactions to changing situations on the electricity grid.
Our ideal candidate meets many - but not necessarily all - of the below criteria:
You have 3+ years of relevant professional experience as a Technical Product Manager delivering an exceptional online software product in an agile manner.
Alternatively we may accept candidates with a greater combined length of experience split across a combination of roles such as an agile product manager or product owner, and in a technical or engineering role.
You’re interested in the technology that enables our products. You seek to understand enough to form opinions on technical matters, explain technical concepts at a high level, and participate in technical discussions within Piclo and with 3rd parties.
You are familiar with Trello, or another similar product management tool, and have experience of writing, scoping and tracking tickets as they move through the flow, and reporting against KPIs as they are delivered.
You are an incredibly motivated and organised person. You enjoy the process of prioritising work and setting timelines while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
You’re resourceful, resilient, and flexible, and will help clear the path for everyone to do their best work.
You are an excellent communicator who can build relationships with teammates from different disciplines, making sure that everyone is clear about what’s required of them.
You’re fluent in English, even if it’s not your first language.
Knowledge and experience of best practices for agile product management. Among other things, you are able to support the dev team to manage code reviews, testing and documentation.
Previous experience includes time as a product manager in a B2B Software as a Service (SaaS) marketplace.
Experience collaborating with 3rd parties, such as existing and potential users, or partner organisations. You may need to lead these interactions at times, including managing relationships, chairing meetings and facilitating workshops, and ensure positive outcomes are reached.
A high-level understanding of any of the following: microservice app architecture, modern cloud platforms, serverless hosting, REST APIs.
Experience in scale-up environments.
Understanding of the energy industry or energy flexibility markets
Comfortable working with products that don’t have a UI and may not have direct human users.
You are motivated by Piclo’s mission to make our energy system smart, flexible and clean.
You are naturally empathic and are always mindful of the humans who use and benefit from your work.
As Technical Product Manager, you will be joining the Integrations team in creating standards for energy flexibility marketplace integrations and APIs. Responsibilities will include the following:
Team management: working with your cross functional team, you’ll be responsible for making sure the team has everything they need to be effective and productive.
Process management: overall responsibility for getting work scoped at both a high level down to the smallest tickets in a sprint. You will also need to be comfortable planning sprints, managing the backlog of tickets with the team, and keeping track of ideas or requests for new features.
Product strategy: planning and prioritising the product roadmap and sprint goals, working closely with your team, the other product managers, CTO and CPO.
Product fit: supporting the gathering of requirements across user, business and product to ensure the product is incrementally improving in the most valuable way.
Delivery: responsible for quality and timely delivery. Communication with key stakeholders along with planning for validation and acceptance testing of your teams’ work will be critical to ensure a successful release of new increments.
Release management: You’ll be responsible for releasing your teams’ work and this will include making sure it’s tracked appropriately as it’s rolled out.

Who we are
Founded in 2013 by Andy, Alice and James, we are a quickly growing team of 40+. Having completed a successful Series A round during 2020 and with backing from the Clean Growth Fund and Mott MacDonald Ventures, Piclo is a tech company poised to disrupt the way that electricity grids are run worldwide.
Piclo Flex is the leading independent marketplace that enables technologies, such as electric vehicles, to provide flexibility to electricity grids. With the rise in demand for renewables and clean technologies, our grids come under more stress and face challenges in maintaining the delicate balance of supply and demand. Piclo Flex smooths out the complex transition, delivering low-cost and resilient grids.
We know “flexibility” can be quite complex to understand at first, here’s a short video that explains “what are flexibility services?”
Our team welcomes everyone to work together on our mission. We don’t believe that anyone should be discriminated against for any reason, be that age, nationality, gender, race, sexual preferences, religious beliefs, political leanings or disabilities. We welcome diversity among our colleagues and see it as important that everyone is supported and comfortable working with us.
