As part of the wider Octopus Energy group, Octopus Renewables sources, invests in and actively manages a range of utility scale renewable energy assets. We are looking to expand our team as we continue to scale our investments base of c£3.5bn. Since entering the renewables market in 2010, Octopus Renewables has grown to become the largest investor of solar power in Europe and a leading investor in onshore wind. We currently manage an increasingly global portfolio of renewable energy assets. The operational portfolio includes over 250 energy generating companies, delivering revenue in excess of £250m pa. We have recently entered into offshore wind and have made 4 investments in the last year, including in Hornsea 1, the world’s largest operational offshore wind farm and Simply Blue Energy, a leading developer of floating offshore wind. Offshore wind is a key strategic growth area for Octopus Renewables and Octopus Energy – we have huge ambitions for the sector and are raising dedicated capital for investment in the sector. Having originated, invested and managed assets in the renewable energy sector for over a decade, our energy investment and asset management team of c.90 professionals is one of the largest and most experienced in Europe. The team is structured for scale and long-term ownership of energy assets.
You will be a key member of the Octopus Renewables offshore wind team. The team invests throughout the project lifecycle from early-stage development projects and platforms through to operational assets. The successful candidate will focus primarily on the Western Europe offshore wind market where OR is currently focused, but will be expected to cover new markets (e.g. US, East Asia) as and when OR begins to look at offshore wind investments in those markets.
An ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of all key technical aspects of offshore wind farm construction, operations and have a proven track record in assessing and managing technical risks of offshore wind farms in an investment/ M&A context and/ or from a project or operational management role. You will be expected to lead on the technical due diligence of new offshore wind investment opportunities and lead on the technical aspects of the management of existing and future offshore wind investments. What you'll do As an integral member of the team, manage the technical due diligence workstream of all new offshore wind investment opportunities, including selection of advisors, setting scopes and budgets and overseeing external technical advisors.Identify and evaluate technical risks and opportunities associated with investments including those related to key technical assumptions (energy yield, opex, capex, asset life, etc.), project design, construction/ operational arrangements and contractsWorking with the broader deal team, considering how these risks can be managed and mitigated, including helping quantify the safety, financial, economic and environmental impact of the risks.Assist the broader deal team in preparing and presenting the technical section of papers to the Investment Committee.Post investment, in an asset management capacity, monitoring and tracking the technical performance of the assets (including ongoing assessment of the technical risks identified during diligence).Identifying opportunities to improve the technical performance of investments, working with the shareholders, O&M providers and stakeholders to optimise the performance of the assets and manage risks.Play a key role in fundraising efforts, interacting with and presenting to investors, and contributing to investor reportingWhat you'll needFull written and oral fluency in EnglishKeen interest and passion for the offshore wind sectorPrior experience is required, in an offshore wind focused role, preferably from a developer or operator of offshore wind farms, or at a recognisable technical advisorAn understanding of technical design and operation of offshore wind farms (including with respect to all key major components) coupled with a “real-world” perspective of known issues in offshore wind.An ability to understand risk and opportunity, reach a balanced appraisal of probability and severity and build workable mitigation strategies.A commercial mindset, able to understand the commercial impact of technical issues on potential investments and the potential to own increasing degrees of decision making.Project management and organisational skills - evidence of managing complex workloads in a fast-paced environment.Excellent spoken and written communication, with the ability to influence internally and externally – including team members, project partners, technical advisors, Investment Committee members to potential investors.A self-starter with tenacity, initiative and a willingness to commit to understand and ultimately deliver.A willingness to travel where required.Growth mindset to continually improve the way we work and the results we achieve.A strong team player with the confidence to exercise judgement appropriately, challenge and coordinate with colleagues at all levels..Why else you'll love it hereWondering what the salary for this role is?
