About the role
You will be part of a Infrastructure team located in the US ,responsible for managing the critical 24/7 Production databases. The role will require you to maintain and improve the databases by proactively monitoring them for performance and stability issues.
As a member of WorldRemit’s Engineering team team you will aim high, embrace challenges and always do what’s right; acting with integrity and building trust as you contribute to the company’s technical direction and long term decision making.
Reporting to the Data Team Lead, you will:
Manage the critical 24/7 production database on the Azure and AWS
Maintain and improve databases by proactively monitoring them for performance and stability issues
Review and deploy schema changes proposed by the engineering teams
Ensure that any changes they propose will not negatively impact the performance of the database and conform to best-practice standards
Migrate from MSSQL and MySQL to PostgreSQL
Mentor developers how to write efficient code, cost optimization, tuning critical code, automation, implementing monitoring solution
Advise on data store choices and modelling
What we’re looking for from you…
3+ years’ experience of working as a DBA on highly transactional DB preferably SQL Server databases in high-availability setups
Experience in design, implement, and tune SQL statements and stored processes to best practice standards
Experience of both developing and administering SSRS
Experience in working in a cloud native environment preferably AWS and work with various scripting languages
Experience of both developing and administering various NoSQL DBs like KeyValue, Document store, Graph or are willing to learn. Preferably like MongoDB and ElasticSearch
Experience of both developing and administering various noncommercial DBs like MariaDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL or are willing to learn
Experience of both developing and administering various noncommercial DBs like Redshift, Aurora, Hyperscale...
Experience with advising on data store choices and to advise what is the best tool for the best job. Understand difference between OTLP, OLAP, DWH and Data lake concepts and how to model
Experience with working in a critical environment where rapid response to outages is required and you are happy to participate in an out-of-hours on-call support rotation
