The Company:

Wagestream is on a mission to bring better financial wellbeing to frontline workers.

We partner with some of the world’s most famous employers, like Pizza Express, Hilton and the UK’s National Health Service, to give their teams access to fairer financial services - all built around flexible pay. Almost a million people can now choose how often they’re paid, track their shifts and earnings, start saving, use budgeting tools, get free financial coaching, and access fairer financial products. All in one financial wellbeing super-app.

Wagestream is unique: VC-backed and growing at scale-up pace, but with a social conscience. The UK’s leading financial charities and impact funds were our founding investors, and we operate on a social charter - which means every product we build has to improve financial health and reduce the $5.6bn ‘premium’ lower-income earners pay for financial services each year.

You’d be joining a team of 200 passionate, ambitious people, growing in Europe, Australia and the USA, building a category-leading fintech product and all united by that same mission.

The Opportunity:

We are currently focused on scaling the team having recently secured our Series C funding.
As such, we are looking for someone who really likes solving problems and is most happy diving through logs and data to unearth that rare edge case thing that happened just as Saturn’s moon was passing Jupiter that has caused untold problems for everyone.
You are not easily perturbed by others flapping*, amping up the urgency and are able to effortlessly calm a situation with your ability to communicate well and thoroughness of approach to a problem.
You have a borderline unhealthy obsession with things working as they should and as a result dream about the processes you can implement to course correct.
You like working with smarty pants that don’t take themselves too seriously but are very proud of the work they do as part of a social mission.

The Team:

The Tech Ops team at Wagestream is a Global function, this means touching the stacks from 4 different territories (US, UK, Spain & Australia) which consequently means exposure to a variety of technologies and teams. We currently have 3 people working from different locations in the US, 1 in London and another in Amsterdam.
The team are a humble bunch with a strong sense of ownership. Humility is a must. You’ll readily recognise this quality as having a strong relationship with getting things done with minimal friction.
The common thread throughout the team is a lack of ego and a good work ethic. We think the coupling of these 2 things is what autonomy looks like in practice
What will you be doing:

Making people love you by solving problems all while ensuring the platform is healthy and any important issues are escalated promptly to the correct teams.
You’ll be exposed to Postgres, Python, AWS, React, Snowflake as well as other technologies.
Requirements
Must haves:

Decent SQL chops (min )
Good experience with Python (Read: Ability to readily understand the intention of code in Python and write reasonable simple pythonic snippets)
Firm Understanding of Incident management principles and a strong pull to resolving potentially complex problems in a controlled fashion marrying speed with safety during recovery.
Ability to context switch and remain oriented to priorities that have varying time scales. This won’t scare you, but you’ll have an in-built too-much-o-meter that allows you to zero in on the things you should rightly be ignoring.
Can-be-learnt:

We expect that you’ll further develop your SQL during your time here and don’t expect you to be an elite data wrangler + DB admin but you should.
