Lime is looking for a talented Senior Mechanical Engineer to develop the next generation of lightweight electric vehicles that are designed, owned and operated internally. Our team of HW engineers and industrial designers builds new vehicles from concept to mass production. In this role, you will contribute to our new product development projects with a collaborative and creative mindset. The ideal candidate is a mechanical design engineer with strong technical skills, comfortable in a larger HW organization, and excited to join a fast-moving startup. Strong mechanical fundamentals, experience designing metal and plastic parts at scale, and experience working with overseas vendors will allow you to play a critical role in bringing affordable, sustainable, last-mile transportation to customers all around the world.
While Lime is a remote-first company, this role is based in the SF Bay Area where Lime has its San Francisco operations warehouse and Hardware Development Lab in the Dogpatch neighborhood. It is a hybrid role (and primarily remote), but it will require you to be in the office as needed for prototyping and testing, which are a regular part of our work. What You'll DoWork cross-functionally with teams in Design, Hardware, Supply Chain, and Product to define, design, and deliver breakthrough lightweight electric vehicles.Create detailed and elegant mechanical designs in CADBrainstorm creative solutions to mechanical, manufacturing, and reliability problemsBuild prototypes in our metalworking and 3D print shopDevise tests and proof of concepts to demonstrate and validate new ideas and drive data-based decision makingListen to the needs of our Operations team and strive for simplicity in our designsOwn the development of multiple parts or subsystems concurrentlyConduct root-cause investigations to support improvement of our designsDefine, create and release technical documentation using GD&T best practices and our product lifecycle management systemWork with external vendors and internal teams across the worldProvide technical project leadership as neededAbout YouBSc/MSc in Mechanical Engineering (or similar), or equivalent experience6+ years of mechanical design engineering work experienceHigh proficiency in CAD software and best practices (SolidWorks preferred)Experience designing plastic and metal parts for a range of manufacturing processes Experience taking at least one project through the entire development cycleExperience owning the mechanical design of a multi-part subsystem or productExperience working with overseas suppliers Practiced familiarity of GD&T and tolerance analysisAbility to work independently and communicate effectively across functional teamsTrack record of keeping technical projects with tight timelines on trackComfort in a fast paced environment and adapting quickly to new requirementsDesire to work hands-on to prototype and validate new designsCurious, collaborative, hardworking, and excited about the future of MicromobilityBonus Qualifications:Bike or other vehicle industry experience, or knowledge of vehicle dynamicsSkill in FEA simulation or CAD surface modelingSystems engineering, or knowledge of motor control or lithium-ion batteriesPortfolio of engineering and/or personal hobby work

Equity and benefits may be provided as part of the compensation package, depending on the position offered. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's skills, experience and other qualifications as well as the candidate's location of residence. In addition to base salary, some roles may be eligible for a variable bonus based on a combination of company performance, employee performance, and management discretion.
