We are looking for a qualified management accountant to join our Gross Margin team here at Octopus, probably with 2+ years post-qualifying experience.
We are a small team with one foot in the finance world and the other in the data space. We have a wealth of data at our fingertips to provide detailed and fast analysis for a multi-billion pound turnover business. Our focus is preparing the gross profit margin we make from selling electricity and gas to customers, which is a complex and challenging area, and some of the below responsibilities will involve using SQL / Python / Jupyter notebooks which we can train you in if needed.
Although our current focus is the UK market, we also work with our international colleagues as we expand in those markets. Team members work with colleagues across business areas (e.g. with Operations and Industry) to use our gross margin data to increase revenue and reduce costs.What you'll do Preparing weekly gross margin information packs for our two UK retail companiesVariance analysis and problem solving around the numbers in those packsTracking and understanding movements in previous months margin (eg changes as meter reads come in)Preparing monthly cost accruals and, with an analyst, improving our modelling of costs Purchase invoice checks and authorisationRunning and expanding suite of reconciliations to assure accuracy of outputWorking closely with our financial auditors, particularly during Year EndProblem solving around improving accuracy of gross margin calculations, with the rest of the team Granular cohort analysis to identify trends within our dataLeading meetings with colleagues and senior managementSubmission of regular industry returnsWhat you'll needExperience in, or an interest in learning, basic SQL / PythonEnergy industry cost knowledgeA love of wrestling with and solving complex problems
