Our operational portfolio consists of more than three hundred energy-generating companies, delivering revenue of over £500 million per year. We take pride in our wind farms, solar power plants, and upcoming projects in energy storage and hydrogen. To support our ambitious growth plans and long-term ownership of energy assets, we are expanding our team.

We are actively looking for a Junior Commercial Asset Manager to join Octopus Energy Generation’s wind asset management team. This team is responsible for overseeing a diverse portfolio of 39 onshore wind farms across Europe, with a total capacity exceeding 1GW. The role represents a great starting point for an individual looking for a career in renewable energy. Particularly those interested in the investment into and management of wind farms. 

The role will be based in London, with flexibility and remote work options to accommodate your needs and maintain a work-life balance.What you’ll need:University degree, 2.1 or above. Grade B or above in Maths or equivalent. Entry-level professional experience is desirable, but not required. Relevant experience examples include asset management, consulting, commercial or other roles in the Energy industry. Exceptional project management and organisational skills. Ability to work collaboratively and exercise judgement appropriately, challenging and coordinating with colleagues and outsourced partners at all levels of seniority.Ability to interpret multiple sources of information and form into a concise recommendation.Entrepreneurial attitude and a willingness to take ownership of multiple workstreams.What you’ll do:This role will provide extensive training by Senior Members of the Asset Management team allowing you to develop all the required skills to become an integral member of Octopus Energy Generation. Throughout your development you will learn all of the below and each responsibility will become a big part of your day-to-day duties. 

Reporting & Governance: Reviewing and assessing reports provided by third parties relating to the commercial and operational performance of your projects. Weekly, monthly, and quarterly updates to internal and external stakeholders on operational and financial performance of wind entities. 

Planning and budgeting: Lead outsourced partners and in-house finance teams to produce a profit and loss and capital expenditure budgets for operational assets. Oversee management of assets against these budgets and assume accountability for fund deliverables as approver of some smaller costs.

Contract management: Apply and understand contracts relating to your portfolio covering Operations and Maintenance, Insurance, Asset Management and lender facilities. Provide clear recommendations as to how these agreements should be applied in specific circumstances to reach fair and achievable outcomes. Negotiate contracts for specific work packages or asset optimisation workstreams. 

Operational oversight & incident management: Liaise closely with outsourced partners to manage risks to production and safety. Act as client lead on minor incidents that occur and provide pragmatic recommendations to Directors for significant cases. 

Data analytics: Support the technical asset manager performing analysis as required to provide concise explanations of deviations from production budget and identify opportunities for operational improvements such as strategic spares or adjustments to maintenance regimes. 

Project appraisal and financial modelling: Undertake financial modelling to build business cases for capital expenditure projects and asset optimisations taking fund objectives such as a consistent asset value and portfolio proceeds into consideration. 

Process development and implementation: Identify opportunities for improvements to the way our team and outsourced partners work. Providing clear recommendations to Directors & outsourced partners as to what proposed improvements are and implementing changes with lasting benefit.  If this sounds like you then we'd love to hear from you.
