Funny name, serious business
We make eco-friendly products and donate 50% of our profits to help build toilets for the billions of people who lack proper access. So far, we’ve contributed over $11 million AUD (roughly $7.9 million USD) to fund water and sanitation projects around the globe. Basically, we’re really good at doing good.
With hubs in Australia, the Philippines, China, the US, UK and Europe, our ambitious team of 200+ work tirelessly to make the biggest possible impact for people and the planet. Over the next couple of years, we’re working to increase our annual donation tenfold and we won’t rest until everyone in the world has access to clean water and sanitation services.
A bit about the role
As an impact-focused business, we have come a long way, but there’s still billions of dollars needed to meet our mission. Securing our first capital raise in 2021, we are using it to unlock new ways of scaling the business including launching new products, expanding deeper into existing markets, and hiring the people needed to make it happen. As our new Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Analyst, you’ll be responsible for delivering insightful reporting and providing a bottom-up budget for each product, function and region at Who Gives A Crap. This work is all building towards us reaching our Big Hairy Audacious Goal of ensuring everyone in the world has access to a toilet by 2050, no biggy.
Our FP&A team is still in its early stages - we’ve been working away on the foundational elements to support the wider business. Now it's time to go further in the work we do, find more efficiencies and provide more information that improves the way the business operates as a whole. Reporting to the FP&A Director, you will touch on every department throughout the business in some capacity as you will be putting together internal monthly reporting and discussing budget and forecasting. This will allow us to delve deeper into how each region is performing, how the profitability of each product is placed, enhance existing reporting dashboards, performance trends to gross margin etc - in short, better informing our stakeholders as they’ve started to scratch the surface!
We’re a remote-first business and our Number Scrunchers team spans across Australia and the Philippines. However as the FP&A function is based in Australia, we’re open to anyone who is comfortable aligning to AEDT hours for core collaboration with your greater team.
If you worked here this past month here are some things you might have been involved in:
Presented the quarterly re-forecast back to the WGAC Executive Team
Kicked-off a new weekly sales report for our DTC business covering sales, marketing metrics and product mix
Prepared monthly reporting metrics to submit to our investors
Connected with our Strategy and Marketing teams to get more familiar with the type of data and dashboards that exist in Looker
Established the framework for the FY24 budget and strategic plan
Learnt some fun Spanish and Tagalog (Filipino dialect) phrases from other members within the Number Scrunchers finance team
Let’s talk about you
You know your numbers
You possess a solid understanding of accounting fundamentals, your excel spreadsheet skills are second to none, you know how to manage and set budgets and forecasts, and you know your way around a financial model. But more than that, you know how to tell the story of our business with your numbers and elevate communications around our reporting. Therefore you also know how to use Powerpoint and Google Workspace (ie. Sheets/Slides) to provide business insights that will empower your stakeholders and ensure their financials ladder up to the longer term vision of Who Gives A Crap.
You don’t work in a vacuum - communication and collaboration are your superpowers
You’re a team player and enjoy working with your fellow number scrunchers team to improve processes. In addition, key stakeholders throughout the business see you as a reliable point of contact and business partner for all financial information and meaningful metrics to help them operate more efficiently and effectively.
You’re a self-starter
Sometimes being a FP&A Analyst is more art than science. Therefore you possess a natural curiosity and you are a keen learner. We’re still a relatively new function so you need to be willing to roll up your sleeves and be able to deal with ambiguity if we don’t have all the data available. You know when something needs to be done and like to take the initiative.
You’re calm under pressure
You’re able to manage your time effectively - prioritising multiple tasks and managing monthly reporting according to deadlines. You know how to stay organised and productive throughout the day, which allows you to meet your deadlines.
You have an analytical mindset
You have the ability to think logically and in a very organised manner - you especially have a knack for details. You are able to think critically, solve problems quickly and efficiently, make sense of data and provide recommendations based on that analysis. You keep one step ahead in supporting stakeholders by having awareness and visibility of ongoing projects around the business and using that knowledge to identify and build reporting/analytical requirements to best serve the business.
You give a crap
Do you want your work to make the world a better place? Do you want to work with other people who feel the same way? What a coincidence — us too!
Why should you work with us?
First off, there’s the feel good stuff. As a certified B Corp™, we work to make a difference every day while maintaining the highest standards of social and environmental impact. We also believe that helping to make the world a better place shouldn’t have to mean getting paid peanuts — it’s why we offer super competitive salaries, benefits like tailored learning and development opportunities, generous paid parental leave and free toilet paper (yes, you read that right).
But you don’t have to take our word for it — our employees recently gave us our sixth consecutive Culture Amp engagement score of 90+ and we’ve been named one of BuiltInLA’s “100 Best Places to Work” two years in a row.
Have you made it this far?
If you’re still reading, we think there’s a strong chance you might be our kind of person. Here’s the thing, though — research suggests that 60% of women and underrepresented folks might have already talked themselves out of applying. Even if you don’t check every box above, we want to encourage you to introduce yourself. We believe a diversity of perspectives and experiences makes a team stronger — and the stronger our team, the closer we are to delivering toilets and clean water for all.
