About the Role:Ā Ā
Planet is currently initiating a search for a full-time Employment Counsel. This role will be part of Planetās in-house legal team and will have a varied and rewarding practice advising the People team and other business leaders, supporting business initiatives, partnering with the Ethics Committee, and ensuring compliance with employment laws and regulations throughout the organization, including Planetās subsidiaries..
This position reports to Planetās Deputy General Counsel, and will be responsible for advising the business generally, including on offer process, templates, Code of Conduct; assessing operational risk related to employment-related legal matters; legal drafting, review and interpretation of company policies and programs related to employees; navigating emergent employment law developments; and representing Planet in employment-related matters. This position requires strong collaboration and communication skills, as well as the ability to influence and develop productive partnerships to mitigate legal risk and ensure Planetās compliance with an ever-changing landscape of employment laws and regulations.
Impact Youāll Own:
Providing sound, actionable, legal advice to People team and Planet business leaders on all aspects of employment law, both domestically and internationally
Developing, reviewing, and interpreting written People policies, guidance documents and communications
Advising on the merits of employment claims filed against or on behalf of Planet; working with the appropriate business leaders to define strategic defenses and recommend settlements of disputes where warranted
Remaining current on changes in employment law, policy and practice that may impact business operations, and partnering with business leaders to prepare for and implement necessary changes
Developing and delivering legal training for members of the People team and other business partners on issues related to employment law and compliance with corporate policy
Supporting and advising on internal investigations
Working closely with the legal team and other leaders on policy initiatives and special compliance projects
Advise on and help implement best practices related to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging
Advising on how corporate changes, including mergers and acquisitions, may affect Planetās business operations and individual employees
Evaluating the status of independent contractors
Escalating issues appropriately to the Deputy General Counsel
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to Planet's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
Performs additional duties, as applicable
What You Bring:
JD degree from an accredited law school
Qualified attorney and Member of the California Bar (in good standing) or eligible to register as a California Registered In-House Counsel
7-10 years of employment law experience with a law firm or corporate legal department
Well-developed problem-solving skills and the ability to exercise responsible and ethical decision making
Ability to analyze legal research, investigation results, relevant data, and/or fact patterns to arrive at effective, economical solutions
Experience handling labor and employment matters before federal and state courts and administrative agencies
Excellent interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with employees, People, business partners and other members of the legal department
Accuracy and attention to detail is a must
Experienced professional with great relationship skills, team player, self-starter, independent thinker, and ability to anticipate the next steps and future issues
Ability to multi-task in a diverse and fast-paced environment, be flexible, and prioritize responsibilities
Strong ability to quickly grasp the business objectives and strategies of a complex multinational organization and support the achievement of those objectives
Excellent written and verbal communication, and presentation skills
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft office, software, technology, spreadsheets, and tools
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by PLANET's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
Familiarity/expertise with Federal compliance & reporting obligations
Occasional travel may be required depending on assignments and business requirements

Provide assistance with due diligence activities related to mergers, acquisitions, and disposition of businesses, as well as on the integration of acquired employees
Conduct audits, classification reviews, and support other internal control and compliance effort
Provide legal support and strategic advice on executive compensation programs, employee health and welfare plans, qualified and non-qualified plans, and ERISA-related matters
Provide legal support for reviewing bonus and incentive plan documents, amendments, and summary plan descriptions

Compensation:
The US base salary range for this full-time position at the commencement of employment is $164,600 - $270,600.Ā Additionally, this role might be eligible for discretionary short-term and long-term incentives (bonus and equity). The final salary range is determined by job related experience, skills and location.Ā The range displays our typical hiring range for new hire salaries in US locations only.Ā Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.
