Job Description

The Mozilla Foundation’s award-winning *Privacy Not Included project (PNI) is seeking an individual to support the creation of consumer-facing, web-based content to help consumers understand the privacy + security of their technology.

As a result of your work, people who use, but don’t always understand the privacy and security of technology, will feel empowered to buy products that align with their values. Your content will appear in a variety of online mediums (news articles, research publications, emails, blogs, social media and original long-form content) and reach millions of people. We are not seeking a writer with only technological know-how; instead, our ideal candidate would excel at storytelling and writing engaging content that is informative but also humorous, accessible, and easy-to-read.

Working with the *PNI Lead and Researcher, the Content Creator will be responsible for:

Writing, editing and fact checking *Privacy Not Included product reviews and publications; see privacynotincluded.org

Drafting original content in various formats that cover topics related to the *Privacy Not Included project and advised through research + interviews

Developing content that tells a story with a consistent and cohesive voice, and is aligned with the Mozilla and Privacy Not Included brand

Maintaining an editorial calendar for *Privacy Not Included content that feeds into the broader Mozilla Foundation editorial calendar

Creating and maintaining a system of cataloging *Privacy Not Included content to ensure timely updating and sharing of content as relevant

Collaborating with Marketing team colleagues to identify and leverage audience and SEO insights into content ideas

Collaborating with Marketing team colleagues to develop *Privacy Not Included content graphics and publication timelines for news articles, social media posts, blog posts, and other long-form content

Required Qualifications

4 years experience writing and creating consumer-facing web content

2+ years’ experience as an effective web-based content creator with a digital storytelling approach.

Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail.

Proven ability to present complex information in a clear and concise way.

Proven track record to quickly learn and understand complex topics.

A basic understanding of technology, including privacy/security principles and their potential impact on people/communities

Proven track record as a strong collaborator and communicator with colleagues across different departments.

Ability to meet deadlines and to work independently.

Experience working in a distributed organization, preferably a remote-first workplace.

Alignment with Mozilla mission and *Privacy Not Included project goals

Salary and Benefits Information:

The Mozilla Foundation is dedicated to fair and equitable compensation for our staff. We strive to pay a competitive and market-based salary that takes into consideration the responsibilities and requirements of the role. We strive to offer at the midpoint of our salary ranges for the purposes of increasing inclusivity and fairness of our offer process and ensuring internal equity. We do not ask for, or take into account, salary histories in our offer process.

The base salary ranges, along with mid-point, for this role in each of the key countries in which we employ staff is listed below. We target the 75th percentile of market pay as a salary band midpoint for all levels, with 10% either side of the midpoint to create a salary range.

Germany: €69,039 - €84,381 (mid-point: €76,710)

UK: £40,939 - £50,037 (mid-point: £45,488)

Canada: $78,160 - $95,528 (mid-point: $86,844)

US: $73,271 - $89,553 (mid-point: $81,412)

Depending on the successful candidate’s location, we may also add in a geographic differential to this base salary that accounts for local job market weighting. This differential is applied to the above ranges depending on the successful candidate’s location. Below are some of the common cities in which we hire staff along with representative examples of salary ranges, along with mid-point, with the geographical differential applied:

Inner London: £44,623 - £54,540 (mid-point: £49,581)

Toronto: $84,334 - $103,075 (mid-point: $93,704)

New York: $93,412 - $114,171 (mid-point: $103,791)
