You’ll be working for a company that’s fighting climate change. We’re the largest investor in solar generation in the UK, and are funding wind and anaerobic digestion. We’re helping people to use greener technology and renewable energy, all helping move the UK towards a lower carbon future.

And for big change, we need big minds. We’re looking for someone who’s passionate about code, curious, and eager to learn and make a difference. 

You’ll be working as the first backend developer in a new team dedicated to bringing the future of renewable generation to life - with the support of an existing product team and the wider Kraken team of developers. This is an early stage project which will give you the chance to have a huge impact, influence how the backend scales to meet new challenges, and create a new ecosystem from scratch.What you'll do... Work in the new backend team that provides services for the Octopus Energy Generation ecosystem in the renewable generation space - literally creating the future of energyWork within an early-stage project which will give you the chance to have a huge impact and - given Octopus’s ambitions in the generation space - influence how the back-end scales to meet new challenges and create a wider ecosystem. Overall you’ll work with a small, high-energy project team to bring the product to life – an exciting opportunity to work like a start-up within a rapidly scaling EnTech business. 

What you'll need... The passion to create something amazing, and the mindset to learn and grow with the company.As this is a very early-stage project, you’ll need to be the type of person that enjoys building something from new, can problem solve independently, and enjoy the fun but sometimes slightly messy start-up approachExperience in the creation of the webservice backend for web apps using Python/Django A strong understanding of the Python ecosystem with 3+ years of experience.An ability to discuss vision and features within a team and propose creative solutionsAn ability to write robust and fault-tolerant softwareKnowledge of (or a desire to learn) GraphQL APIs is a plusProficient understanding of GitFamiliarity with continuous integration and continuous deploymentBe someone who enjoys interacting with other people - as a new product you’ll need to regularly chat with the wider team to agree how to take the product forwards
