It’s Veganuary and we’ve taken it upon ourselves to taste-test some of the most exciting plant-based alternatives on the market.

There’s been an explosion of vegan products hitting the shelves over the last few years, with the UK meat substitute market worth over 500 MILLION euros!  

More people than ever before are looking to reduce their meat intake and try some plant-based swaps. In fact, in 2021 a whopping 63.5% of Brits bought vegan food items. Pretty tasty.  

With more options than ever before, including lots of supermarket own-brand ranges, where do you start? Keep reading to discover 10 of our favourite vegan brands and their delicious alternatives.

Heura

THIS is what happens when two meat-lovers checked out meat-free food and decided that they didn’t want any of it. According to THIS, their meat alternatives are ‘ridiculously high in protein, taste sensational and are produced by people who won’t guilt-trip you if you also eat meat.’

Vegan alternatives: THIS produces created everything from vegan bacon to ready-to-eat sandwiches and ready meals.  

Jobs For Good team review: THIS is our go-to vegan bacon – it crisps up really nicely and smells almost exactly like the real deal.

Oatly produces dairy alternatives made with (no prizes for guessing), oats.  

Vegan alternatives: Opt for Oatly for vegan milks and chilled drinks, yoghurt, cream, ice cream and more. They even make vanilla custard!  

Jobs For Good team review: If you’re looking for a solid dairy alternative, Oatly is the way to go. Their barista editions are especially good and fully foamable.

Vivera

The Vivera team believes life is better when you eat less meat. Vivera started producing meat substitutes 30 years ago and has a lot of expertise and technologies to produce a wide range of products. Most Vivera alternatives are based on soy beans. However, some are also made with chickpeas, pea and wheat proteins.  

Vegan alternatives: Vivera has a large range of meat replacers like salmon fillets, chicken strips and nuggets, mince, shawarma kebab pieces and even a vegan steak.  

Jobs For Good team review: The shawarma pieces are a hit with us! The steak was also very tasty.
